Jump into the world of informal education by interning with our Education department. Aquarium educators play an integral role in communicating the Aquarium’s mission and conservation efforts to our visitors through both formal and impromptu programming.

Education internships offer opportunities to hone public speaking skills and develop educational content for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Interns also receive unique training in animal handling for various educational programs.

Education interns learn how to:

  • interpret exhibits, animals, and Aquarium operations for visitors
  • make connections between Aquarium animals and their counterparts in the wild
  • promote conservation actions and initiatives
  • safely handle ambassador animals and biofacts
  • help guests safely interact touch pool residents
  • deliver public presentations

Please note: All internships are unpaid. Interns must have their own housing and transportation.

  • Minimum of a college junior in a Biological or Environmental Science related field- recent graduate preferred.
  • Enjoy working with the public, with an emphasis on customer service- customer service experience preferred. 
  • Capacity to learn complex tasks quickly; attention to detail; strong problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a group. 
  • Ability to relate to the public in a cheerful positive manner- strong communication skills preferred. 
  • Must be able to pass a background check if needed. 
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Please inquire about reasonable accommodation.

  • Fall (late August- December)
  • Winter (late November- January)
  • Spring (late January-May)
  • Summer (late May-August)

*Start/end dates may be flexible based on school schedules

  • Must be available to work at least 3 days per week and complete a minimum of 200 hours (on site) over a timeframe of at least 13 weeks
  • One scheduled day must be on a weekend (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)

• Fall: July 15th
• Winter: October 15th
• Spring: December 15th
• Summer: March 1st
